Research Goal
This study aims to identify presence–reality confusion during reality–virtuality transitions in XR and to develop transition interfaces that mitigate this confusion. The goal is to prevent user confusion and ensure safety in XR environments.
Research Introduction
As users repeatedly shift between virtual and real environments, they may experience presence–reality confusion, including attention failures, delayed reactions, and cognitive errors. Existing research has mainly focused on immersion, presence, or motion sickness, but studies on confusion during reality–virtuality transitions remain limited.
This project investigates the conditions under which presence–reality confusion occurs and develops transition interfaces to mitigate it. Using Unity-based XR simulations and eye-tracking experiments, we quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of these design strategies. The ultimate goal is to prevent user confusion and ensure cognitive safety in XR environments, providing design guidelines for the safe adoption of future XR technologies.
